Wow... it's hard to believe that Python was the most popular programming language in 2017. I concur with the article below (from Codecademy) that the rise in popularity might be attributed by the growth in opportunities in data science and machine learning areas. Python is also a simple and straightforward programming language to learn which is great for kids to get into as a first text coding language. However, there are many programming languages out there and it depends on what you (or your child) want to do with it. The best advice is to start with one and stick with it to get the most out of it.
